The fifth LTA (Learning and Teaching Activity took place in Czech Republic , from 6/05/2019 to 21/05/2019.

The headmistress welcomed all the participants at our school and in the Czech Republic. Thereafter we divided into 3 groups and showed the students and teachers the school and specialised labs. From 9:30 we had a lecture with a representative from the NGO and green social business called “Bez Obalu” (without packaging) that explores and develops ways to prevent the creation of waste. It was founded by three university students in 2014 who opened the first Zero Waste shop in the Czech Republic. Today they have three shops in Prague, and they support and help others open their own Zero Waste shops. The lecture was very interesting, we learnt a lot about waste production what it causes and what we can do to reduce our own waste footprint.
After a coffee break we met in the lecture hall for a Kahoot game prepared by the Czech students. The quiz was about the participating countries. After that we presented the partners with a small gift and then students presented their school and country presentations.
In the afternoon students took part in some ice-breaking activities to get to know each other. The played a speed dating game, then they worked in teams and prepared a short presentation. After that they participated in sports games in teams in the sports hall. At the end of the day everybody was tired and ready for a break.
At 8:30 we set off for Prague to visit the Impact Hub, an all-in-one office space, coffeeshop and incubator. It is a very nice and modern workspace used by independent professionals and it also hosts many interesting events for its members and the public. The Impact Hub also organises and manages 8 acceleration programs, one of them is the Social Impact Hub Award. That is why we visited the Hub, to learn more about this project, which is one of the largest social-business acceleration and training programs in 30 countries around the world. It offers young people from the age of 14 to 30 people financial and educational support for their social entrepreneurial ideas. The coordinator of this program told us how young people can submit project ideas, how the acceleration program works and what mentoring and support they get. She also introduced some of the winners of the Social Impact Award. Learning about the activities of the Hub was interesting and inspiring.
After lunch we divided into two groups and went on a guided tour organised by the social enterprise Pragulic, which is a former winner of the Social Impact Award in the CR. Pragulic was founded by three university students and its aim is to help and employ homeless people as tour guides. Their clients have the opportunity to experience Prague through the eyes of homeless people. One of our tour guides was Jirka, who studied energetics at university and worked in management positions. Unfortunately, due to some personal problems he started drinking, due to this he lost his family and practically everything and ended up on the streets. He showed us the most picturesque part of Prague, but also where to sleep, find food and wash if you become homeless.
The guide of the second group was Zuzka, who was a drug addict for 18 years. Today she also works as a tour guide and an outreach worker, who helps young people at risk of drug addiction. Zuzka nad Jirka now stand on their own feet with the help and support of the organisation Pragulic. After the guided tour everyone had some free time to do some shopping.
Once again we set off for Prague, this time to visit the Invisible Exhibition, which is a social business and project that employs people who are visually impaired or blind. We had the opportunity to try out what it is like to be without one of our senses. In the exhibition we walked around in total darkness guided by blind people. It was a very interesting and strong experience. There was also a room where we could try writing in braille, play some games and activities for blind people and learn more about the lives of people who have this impairment.
After lunch we headed for Prague Castle, where students were divided into teams and set off on an app. guided tour of the main sites using the tool Action Bound. With this app. Students completed several fun tasks and could read some information about the sites they saw.
Later in the afternoon we set off for Dobříš to have dinner. Dobříš is a small town with a beautiful chateau where writers used to spend time and write.
Students and teachers met at school at 9 o’clock and we started the day off with a game called the “marshmallow challenge”. This games promotes creativity and teamwork. With the use of 1 meter of sellotape and string, 20 pieces of spaghetti and marshmallow, teams of three tried to build the highest self-standing tower with the marshmallow on top within a set time limit.
Students gathered in the lecture hall to present the results of their project work, i.e., the company that they had created, its business plan, webpage, marketing material and phone apps. They also presented the steps that need to be taken to start a business in their respective countries.
After lunch we started to prepare materials for the public “trade fair” to be held on Friday. Students mainly printed their materials, photos and texts that they would use for the presentation of their company. They also prepared material for posters about the LTAs in each country.
In the morning students met in the school hall and started to prepare their stands for the trade fair. There was still a lot of work to complete and prepare. Teams brought some local treats and products of their company that they put on display. Students and teachers from the school and the public could come and see the work of the teams and it was a nice form of dissemination of our product results.
In the afternoon students and teachers went to visit the Březnice castle and synagogue.
In the evening everybody gathered for the farewell party. All the participants in the LTA received a participation certificate. After dinner everybody started dancing and I think that we all had a good time.
